IAN BURMAN

Ian Burman

Ian Burman grew up in Annapolis Maryland and sailing has been a huge part of his life from a young age.  After starting out cruising the Chesapeake with his family, Ian got hooked by one design racing in the El Toro class.  The El Toro led to the Optimist and then on to a sailing career that saw him racing all over the country and overseas in a variety of boats.  Ian was a member of the Severn School and Georgetown University sailing teams and coached sailing during the summers at Severn Sailing Association while in school.  Coaching became a passion of his and eventually became his career.  Ian became a high school sailing coach right out of college and served as SSA’s Junior Program Director from 2001-2005. In 2008, Ian became the Head Intercollegiate Sailing Coach at the US Naval Academy, a position he still holds. At Navy, Ian won numerous conference and national championships and

the program has produced many All-American sailors. Ian still lives in Annapolis with his wife, Leah and now enjoys getting the chance to watch his own children, Trey and Casey, participate in the sport that has meant so much to him.
