SCHOLARSHIP FUNDING GUIDELINES

The Annapolis Yacht Club Foundation was established in 2000 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We provide partial to full, need based scholarships for children under age 18 to attend certified sailing and boating educational programs. The AYC Foundation’s intent is to provide funds that enable participation which without our help would not be possible.  We want to help as many children as possible have access to sailing.  Please ask for the exact amount you need to make this possible for your child and be willing to certify the need expressed in the application.

Scholarships for Maritime-related Educational Programs

Eligibility

The applicant must:

  • be under the age of 18 and live in the Mid-Chesapeake Bay area;

  • be seeking funding to cover the costs, in whole or in part, to participate in maritime-related educational programs, such as programs related to sailing, boat-building, or environmental stewardship;

  • certify need based upon the total annual household income and household size;

  • unless there are special circumstances, the maximum total annual household income should not exceed 100% of the median household income for your geography. For example, the maximum household income for a family of four in Anne Arundel County is $122,000;

  • not have already received more than one grant from AYCF in this calendar year since sailors are only eligible for two AYCF grants per year.

For scholarship recipients, AYCF’s preference is not to fund fees or costs related to attending regattas. If this is your request, please explain in detail why this should be funded. Any regatta for which you are requesting funding should require qualification.

The AYCF Board of Directors considers all applications as well as recommendations from our Advisory Committee. AYCF bases its funding decisions on the strength of the application, other grant applications AYCF is reviewing, and AYCF’s financial position.
