Casey grew up on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Looking for an escape from politics and traffic, Casey and his sister started sailing out of West River Sailing Club when he was 9. Casey and his family then moved to Annapolis in the summers to start his racing career. Casey competed for 5 years in the Opti representing the Annapolis Yacht Club and qualified for the U.S. Opti Team in 2012 and 2013, where he finished his career with a 24th at the British Nationals in 2013. Casey then moved to the C420 where he competed in the North American C420 circuit for 3 years and finished in 20th at the North Americans in 2016. In Casey’s second year of high school, he won A division in the MDISA regional championships in Annapolis. The strong A division finish wasn’t quite enough for nationals, so the team settled for Silver championships where Casey finished 2nd in A division. He achieved similar success in A division for the next two years. Casey also played club soccer and was captain and second leading scorer of his school’s varsity soccer team, ensuring that Casey had at least one practice each school day he could skip. Casey then moved to Boston University where he graduated with a degree in Finance and Economics in 2021. As a B Division skipper in 2019, Casey finished 2nd in the Captain Hurst Bowl, 7th at the Hatch Brown Memorial, 8th at the Harry A Trophy, and 4th at the Bob Bavier. The pandemic cut Casey’s college career short in 2020 - his last event was in the spring of his junior year where the team lost the ability to compete with a promising lineup. At that time, the team’s Fleet race ranking was 2nd overall. Casey took over as Captain in his last year at BU and helped the team through a challenging time with limited sailing. Hungry for an opportunity to keep competing, Casey joined up with Reed Lorimer and quickly fired up a full-time 49er campaign a month after graduation. The pair jumped right into training in Bristol, RI for the summer of 2021.
