The Foundation Supports Halsey Carter for the 2026 WASZP Games and Pre-Games in Pensacola, Florida

A Competition Sailing Grant was awarded to Halsey Carter for the 2026 WASZP Games and Pre-Games in Pensacola, Florida, held on March 17-28 2026.

62 Top Sailors spanning from around the world competed for the chance to become World Champions.

Pensacola Bay proved to be an amazing location for foiling, allowing competitors to sail every day of the five-day regatta with widely varied winds that challenged the fleet with diverse conditions that tested their abilities and skills. The fleet tackled a SailGP-style course rather than a typical W2, however, the race committee’s plans for distance and slalom races were thwarted by light winds.

Halsey recounts her amazing experience:

I learned so much and made significant improvements in my overall WASZP sailing, finishing 14th for women and 21st in the 7.5 class. I had the opportunity to learn from the designer of the boat, Andrew McDougall, who gave presentations on upgrades and performance improvements during our wind delays. One of the biggest lessons I learned from this event was how important consistency is at a high level. In such a competitive fleet, small mistakes can cost many places, so focusing on clean foil gybes and foil tacks were key to stay at the top. I also learned how important it is to be able to adapt to different wind conditions, especially when going from foiling to low riding, where patience matters so much more. Competing against top sailors showed me what I need to improve and gave me clear goals moving forward.

I am incredibly grateful to the Annapolis Yacht Club Foundation for supporting me through this grant. This opportunity allowed me to compete at my first WASZP Games and gain valuable experience against top sailors from around the world. It pushed me to improve my skills and grow as a competitor, and I am proud to represent AYCF.
